1. How often does my dog go outside?

This is the single most revealing question you can ask. A facility that can give you a specific, structured answer — ‘every 90 minutes, for 15 to 30 minutes each time’ is a facility built around the dog’s needs, not operational convenience. 

A vague answer like ‘several times a day’ or ‘whenever they need to’ is a red flag. Dogs need regular, predictable outdoor time for both physical health and mental wellbeing. If the facility can’t tell you exactly when and how often, it means they haven’t thought carefully about it.

2. Will I receive updates while my dog is there? 

A simple yes or no isn’t enough here. Ask specifically: what kind of updates, and how often? 

Photos once a week are not the same as a video every day. The difference matters enormously, especially for owners traveling internationally or for longer stays. Daily video updates sent via WhatsApp are the gold standard, they let you see your dog’s mood, energy, and condition with your own eyes, not just take someone’s word for it. 

If a facility tells you they’ll ‘reach out if there’s a problem,’ that’s not reassurance. That’s the bare minimum. 

3. Is there a vet involved in your operations?

Not every boarding facility has on-site veterinary care, and that’s okay for short stays in healthy dogs. But you should know what happens if your dog gets sick, has a reaction, or needs medical attention. 

Ask whether a vet visits regularly, and whether emergency veterinary access is available. For dogs with chronic conditions, medication needs, or older dogs, this question becomes non-negotiable. 

• Does a vet visit the facility regularly? 

• Is there an emergency vet on call if something happens at night? 

• Who makes the decision to seek medical help, and will you be notified immediately? 

4. How are dogs kept separate from each other?

Dog mixing is one of the most common sources of injury and stress in boarding facilities. Not all dogs are compatible, and grouping dogs by size or energy level alone is not enough. 

The right answer involves individual rooms or spaces, and a clear policy on when and how dogs interact. Some facilities only allow mixing with explicit consent from both owners, which is the right approach. Others mix freely and hope for the best. 

Ask directly: ‘Will my dog share space with other dogs without my permission?’ The answer tells you a lot about how the facility thinks about individual dog welfare.

5. What does a typical day actually look like?

Ask for a walk-through of the daily schedule, from the first morning session to the last check of the night. A well-run facility will have a clear routine and be able to describe it in detail. 

Look for specifics: feeding times, garden sessions, rest periods, evening routines. A facility that operates until midnight is fundamentally different from one that closes at 6 PM. The difference matters most if your dog is used to late evening activity or if something happens after hours. 

6. What is your hygiene and pest control routine?

In Cairo’s climate, this question is especially important. Insects and pests are a real concern in any outdoor facility, and the way a boarding hotel manages hygiene reflects how seriously they take the dogs’ living conditions. 

A good answer includes a scheduled disinfection routine, not reactive cleaning, but proactive, calendar-based pest control. Ask specifically how often the rooms and common areas are cleaned, and whether there’s a dedicated disinfection schedule for insects. 

If the answer is ‘we clean when it’s dirty,’ keep looking.

7. Can I see the facility before I book?

Any reputable dog boarding hotel should welcome this without hesitation. A tour, even a short one, tells you more than any website, review, or phone call ever could. 

When you visit, notice the smell, the noise level, how the staff interact with the dogs already there, and whether the dogs look calm or stressed. A clean, well-managed facility with engaged staff is visible immediately. 

If a facility resists a visit or gives you reasons why it’s not possible, that itself is the answer. 

What Good Answers Look Like

The facilities that answer these questions confidently with specifics, without deflection, are the ones worth trusting. Not because they give perfect answers, but because the specificity itself signals that these questions have been thought through carefully. 

A facility that tells you ‘garden time every 90 minutes, from 6 AM until midnight’ has built their operations around the dog. A facility that tells you ‘we take them outside regularly’ hasn’t. 

The difference, when you’re on a flight and wondering if your dog is okay, is enormous.
